While their ship is most likely inferior to ours, her build suggests a somewhat decent speed. The Fiertia could make an excellent scout.

However, if we are attacked by pirates, that means they get to them first.

Which means that the pirates will waste their time and energy in a pitiful attempt to defeat them. Think of the Fiertia not as competition but as a decoy - as soon as the enemy is weakened by their efforts, we'll be able to pick the pirates off without ever having to leave the dear ambassador's side.
